A Breath of Fresh Air In One Shot – Nyle “Let the Beat Build”

Monday, May 4th, 2009

Nyle “Let The Beat Build” from Nyle on Vimeo.

This video was filmed in one take, with audio being recorded simultaneously with the film.

This video is pretty great and the song ain’t bad either.  In the flashy overproduced world of today’s modern music, it takes guts to do a music video raw like this, let alone having such a progressive beat!!  This take would make even Gondry jealous.

The sheer amount of “invisible” or unappreciated work that went into the details that brought this movie to life are simply astounding…  Henry Selick could easily have taken a few short cuts, but he didn’t and his love of craft is completely evident on screen; I can’t wait to pick this up when it comes home!

Froghat and Coraline

I was a bit surprised and also pleased to see that the Coraline movie was rather devoid of Dave McKean’s touch.  While I like his work alot, I’m just so used to seeing him collaborate with Gaiman; and since he has a few illustrations in the original book, I was surprised by the direction the movie went.  There is a much more approachable feel to it, while still touching back on the unique designs of McKean, especially on the “OTHER” side.

I remeber first visiting Froghat Studio’s website and seeing their Alice in Wonderland work and being utterly blown away.  It’s easy to see why they were such a great pick for Coraline.

See more of their work on Coraline here!

David Cross on…

…why Arrested Development was cancelled.  I recently got the entire show on Amazon, and have loved rewatching it.  I regret not following it as much when it was on, but then again…the time slot was constantly shifting, and falling behind on AD results in lots of missed jokes…
